So you’d like to tour the beautiful countryside on a typical August day just south of the Platte River? And you want to give the gravel a try? And you’d like to do it with friends, or soon to be friends, with SAGed stops on Sunday, August 30? You’ve been heard! Here’s a description of the gravel edition of the Heatstroke 100 from the Ride Sponsors, Great Plains Bicycle Club, and Bellevue Bicycle Club.

“If you want to get closer to the corn and the cows we have a gravel route starting and ending at the Strategic Air Command Museum, near Ashland, NE. Our Heatstroke 100 gravel route winds about 54 miles along Nebraska’s great gravel roads. The route crosses the Lied Bridge taking you along the scenic Platte River and on to a section of the limestone packed MoPac Trail. In order to connect everything and include our sag stops, there are some short highway sections. Registration begins at 7 am and the ride starts at 7:30 am. The route closes at 4:30 pm. Mechanical support will be available from REI at the SAC museum and roving sag support will be available throughout the day. Towns along the route are Ashland ( a couple miles off the route), Murdock, Greenwood, Louisville, & South Bend.

The 4 sag stops (The first sag is the SAC museum) are included in the route so water & snacks are available to both gravel & road riders!
Registration information for this Sunday, Aug. 30 ride, including maps and other details is available at: https://greatplainsbikeclub.org/heatstroke-hundred/“

This ride has been more known in past years for it’s loops of varying distances on pavement, of which you could ride one, some, or all. This option still exists if you prefer to ride pavement. It is not a race. The ride has started to include gravel though, which some of us prefer, and for the gravel curious.
