Whether you prefer big regional races, small grass roots racing, mountain biking or touring, there’s no question the big one is in town this week. We’ll be sure to see riders from all over (50 states and various foreign countries again I believe) appearing on our trails and testing the gravel. It’s worth noting that gravel is scarce in many parts of the country, and riders elsewhere have to search to find it. Here we live in the middle of the gravel seas, and it only requires a short ride to be on it.
Gravel Worlds has undergone many changes over the years, but as it’s changed and morphed, it’s brought in more riders and involved more communities. The eight years I did the 150 the route encircled Lincoln. While there was always a new route, there were obviously limitations where you could go. This year the 150 mile route stretches to Nebraska City for the first time, and the 75 to Elmwood. The 300 into six counties and two states. It’s great to include communities near the MoPac trail gap, so that those community members can benefit from the stoke the race brings, and the scholarships.

In Lincoln, it’s a week of events and expo, starting Tuesday evening. Though I’m a little worried about short track racing at Van Dorn Park after the rain we’ve gotten. Even if you’re not racing, there are still plenty of events in the line-up to check out, the expo on Thursday, and riders to cheer on.

Running events continue on Sunday. If you want to follow the race live on Saturday, you can find that at https://www.gravelworlds.com/
