Do you remember the open house Plan Forward hosted last summer pertaining to Transportation, Mobility & Community Planning? The feedback has been compiled and they’re on to the next, and final, public input phase. While the physical open house was on September 22, the virtual open house continues until October 22, so be sure to view the plan and submit your comments. From the site:
“September 22 – October 22, 2026 is the third and final phase of public engagement for the Long Range Transportation Plan and Lincoln Mobility Plan. Your input helped shape draft recommendations, and we want to hear from you one more time before the plans are finalized. Navigate down this page to participate: follow Steps 1-3, or take a deeper dive into the complete draft plans along the way.”
Spencer from Strong Towns was able to attend and had the following feedback:
The Plan Forward feedback meeting demonstrated clear momentum aligned with Strong Towns values.
For example
– 3% of every road project budget should go to multi-modal transportation (bus stops, bike infrastructure, etc)
– Bike trails as transportation
– Use bike boulevards for connections between trails. Use existing roads, but add traffic calming to make it clear these are pedestrian spaces
– Mobility nodes: coordinate bus stops with trails and bike share stations
– Change zoning around mobility nodes to improve density and mixed use development
But here’s the key bit, not all of these projects have funding yet (like the mobility nodes).
Bikes and transit were a big focus of the plan explicitly because they received so much public feedback requesting it.
This is big opportunity for us to impact how the city builds for the next 5 years.
