Trail Ramblings: Are You Making Plans Yet?

I’m still getting notifications for rides and events this fall that I haven’t heard of before, so don’t think that “the season,” whatever that means, is over. Also, the announcements for next year’s rides are starting to roll in, so if you’re eager to start filling your calendar, it’s time to make plans. For some, they’re the motivation to put those hours in on the trainer over the winter, as you certainly don’t want to be caught unprepared. I used to think these announcements didn’t start appearing until January, like garden seed catalogs, so either I was wrong, not paying attention, or it really does get earlier every year.

The following are a few upcoming events you can ride yet this fall. There are likely more Mountain Biking, Cyclocross, or other cycling events I don’t know about, but I am not seeing those announcements. Feel free to send along the info. I know the mountain bike trail users are still doing trail work at Branched Oak Lake, and the weather has been good for mountain biking in general. Where the numbers have been needed lately is in Cyclocross. Events can be held only if there is enough participation.

The High Trestle Bridge, Ankeny, IA. See it at night, too.
